Fritschi's Xenic 10 touring binding re-sets the boundaries of what is possible with pin bindings.
Made from high-tech materials to keep it light in weight but incredibly stable, it features a compact design which is comfortable but provides superb downhill performance, weighing in at 280 grams per unit (without brake).
Innovative Design
The Xenic 10 is the first pin binding with jaws that open and close laterally. This offers easier boot entry and greater resistance to vertical upward forces that can cause inserts to open unexpectedly.
The heel unit combines low weight with features to ensure good control and release safety. The lateral and vertical release functions are separated to improve binding rigidity. The wide base gives excellent stability and power transfer, with lateral heel release adjustable between 4-10 DIN. The heel pins rotate freely to avoid friction and are more durable than "U" type springs. Changing between walk and ski modes is quick and easy by rotating the heel unit 180°. In walk mode, there are two positions: flat and one heel riser.
Safety and Performance
The heel units can twist 13 mm laterally to absorb shocks before releasing. To compensate for changes in length as the ski flexes, the heel unit can move 10 mm backwards. For forward falling frontal release, the boot is released from the heel unit and presses on the toe unit to open the jaws, freeing the boot at an angle of about 65 degrees.
