BASI CPD Ski Technicians Training Course 2019

Anything Technical are delighted to be able to offer a one-day Ski Technicians training course specifically designed to meet the needs of BASI members. The course enables members to fulfill their requirement to earn CPD points and offers a comprehensive guide on how to service and conduct basic repairs on skis and snowboards. The course provides a perfect balance of theory and practical training and gives members a valuable insight into ski design, evolution and construction. They run once a month from August through to November and from 9am to 5pm, a full timetable and course dates are listed below.

Course Dates:

  • 18th November


  • 9.00 am – Introduction
  • 9.20 am – Ski/Snowboard construction. Metal edges/base materials
  • 9.30 am – Skis though the years. Wooden skis, traditional skis, current skis
  • 9.45 am – Workshop setup and general workshop practice. Health and safety
  • 10.00 am – Base preparation including cleaning and filing

Tea/Coffee break

  • 10.25 am – Demonstration Gouge filling using candles and repair guns
  • 11.00 am – Base patching
  • 11.20 am – Practical including base edging and gouge filling

Lunch break

  • 1.30 pm – Side edge sharpening and tuning using files and edging tools
  • 2.00 pm – Use and benefits of machinery
  • 2.30 pm – Waxing theory and practice
  • 2.45 pm – Standard waxes explained including application
  • 3.00 pm – Race waxes. Application and advantages

Tea/Coffee break

  • 3.55 pm – Binding mounting and adjusting. Alpine and touring bindings
  • 4.45 pm – Question and answer session
  • 5.00 pm – Finish
