INTRODUCTION
Anything technical Ltd have been involved with ski boot repairs, ski boot spare parts and ski boot fitting techniques, problems and remedies since we set up in business. We have also been running training courses for ski boot technicians for many years.
We are currently responsible for repairs and spare parts for Nordica, Tecnica, Head, Scarpa and Rossignol for the whole of the UK. We also carry spare parts for most other brands including Dalbello, Salomon, Atomic, Fischer and Lange and if we do not have the parts in stock we will endeavour to source the parts for you.
We have 2 different bench mounted riveting machines, a small one for replacing buckles and velcro straps, and a larger machine, which allows us to re-rivet canting bolts and ankle rivets. This gives us the capability of stripping a ski boot right down before carrying out the necessary repair and then rebuilding it.
As well as repairing damaged or faulty boots in our specialist workshop we also have a boot fitting department in our retail shop where we can custom fit ski boots to each individuals specifications. This includes customised insoles, heat molded inner boots, foam injected inner boots, boot stretching and shell grinding.
We stock a range of replacement parts which include buckles, heels and toes, inner boots, ankle/cant rivets, forward lean mechanisms and other spares which we can supply direct or fit for you in our workshop. Below is a rough guide as to prices. For a definitive quote please ring us on the number at the top of this page.
BOOT REPAIR CHARGES
We also offer a Boot Re-fitting Service for customers who have bought their boots elsewhere and are having fit problems, If you decide to take advantage of our services please see here for the full range of modification charges.
Replacement Heels and Toes
Most recreational ski boots have replacement heel and toe units on the base of the boot. Their primary function is to help reduce friction during a fall whilst skiing so the boot releases cleanly from the ski binding. They also have a grip function to assist walking on snow and protect the main body of the boot from premature wear. Replacing them is something that can easily be done by the customer as they are attached to the base of the ski boots by screws.

Ski Boot Liners
Replacing your ski boot liners can transform your ski boots. As soon as you start to use your ski boots the boot liners will begin to pad out and that luxurious fit you had in the ski shop disappears. As the liner material compresses you start to lose control of your skis, and subsequent over tightening of the buckles can result in severe foot pain. Another common problem lots of people encounter is when they retrieve their boots from the attic in anticipation of their new holiday they discover that mice have chewed up the liners! A new pair of liners are a fraction of the cost of a new pair of ski boots.

Butterfly Heel Grab / Y-shaped Heel Grab
Many skiers find that their ski boots are not supportive enough around the heel area. This can be because they have narrow or skinny heels or because the inner boot has packed out with use. Once your heels are loose in the boot it is very difficult to control the ski.
Attaching a butterfly heel grab on the back of the inner boot is a simple but very effective way of tightening the boot in the Achilles tendon/lower calf area.

They are pre shaped sticky backed foam that are located between the inner boot and the shell and come in 2 different sizes Small or Large.

Heel Retainers
Heel retainers are ideal for skiers who experience only slight looseness around the heel area, especially in older boots where the liner has “packed down”, or in situations where a new boot has been bought slightly on the large side.

Heel retainers sit between the inner boot and the shell and are simply slotted onto the back of the liner. They compress the material around the base of the heel and lower leg to tighten the ankle hold and improve heel retention.

Ankle Doughnut
Sore ankle bones are a real ski boot fit problem, especially for men. Men suffer more than women because they tend to have bigger, more pronounced ankle bones. It is nearly always the internal ankle that is the problem. This is because it is the bigger of the 2 ankles, sits higher up the leg and most people tend to collapse towards the inside (pronate ) with weight on the foot.
If there is only slight pressure on the ankle bone, a doughnut stuck on the outside of the inner boot around the ankle bone will help to reduce pressure as the bone will be located into the hole/pocket.

For more severe ankle rubbing an ankle stretch is needed using a boot stretcher. A customised insole is also recommended as this will help to realign the foot and reduce the effects of foot collapse or over-pronation.

Shin Gel Pads and Shaped Gel Pads
Sore shins are a skiers and boot fitters nightmare as there can be several reasons why the shins are painful.
Typical examples are boots that are too stiff, socks that are too thick or made of the wrong materials, old boots with little padding within the tongue, shin splints etc..

Shin pads stick to the bare leg underneath the ski sock and help by distributing pressure more evenly thereby removing painful hotspots. The Epithilium pads are also excellent shock absorbers and work particularly well with more aggressive skiers who tend to push through the front of their boots more.

Volume Reducers
Some of the most common boot fit problems are caused when ski boots are too big, usually when the boots have been bought on the large side or the inner boot has packed out from extended use. The resulting excessive volume leads to a loss of control, with the skier then tending to over tighten the closure buckles to stop their feet moving around in the boot.
This inevitably leads to boots applying excessive and localised pressure as the plastic distorts, particularly on the top of the foot. This results in impaired circulation which leads to numb, dead and cold feet, screaming arches, cramping etc.
An effective solution is to place a volume reducer under the insole within the inner boot. This will lift your foot up towards the top of the ski boot and you will no longer have to over tighten the toe and instep buckles. The boot will overlap more naturally and adapt to your foot as opposed to being over tightened and the shell then pushing down severely on to the top of your foot.

Ski Boot Heel Lifts
Heels lifts are a godsend for boot fitters and are used in several different ways to help make the ski boot feel more comfortable.

Heels lifts are ideal for eliminating pressure points, especially in difficult or obscure areas. They work well when the heel lift is placed underneath the insole inside the inner boot as the foot sits further back in the boot and the heel and lower leg are raised upwards. This re-positioning often removes pressure points and helps alleviate the pain.
This re-positioning can also help where boots are slightly tight on the toes, can alleviate calf muscle pressure and help stop shin pain.

Ski Boot Buckle Extenders
Designed for the male or female skiers who have larger or “sporty” calves, and struggle to tighten the ski boot around the lower leg, without causing pain or cramp. Although most ski boots now have adjustable leg closure buckles and toothed mechanisms, this sometimes is still not enough.

Buckle extenders are made by Nordica but they do fit on to lots of other models from other ski boot brands. They attach to the toothed part of the closure system and enable the cuff to be opened further, thereby helping to accommodate large lower legs.
Ratchet extenders are available on our website, to view them Click here. or if you need help or advice please call us on 01539 734701
Boot Stretching
Most technical ski shops will offer a ski boot stretching facility.

There are instances when a boot stretch is necessary ( bunions, large ankles, wide feet etc ) but stretching the shell is generally only required in certain circumstances. All ski boots are made of plastic and plastic is thermo-moldable which means it can be modified and reshaped with heat.

A stretcher is a hydraulic press that is placed inside the shell of the ski boot in the area that needs pushing out. The shell is warmed using a heat gun ( some shops use boiling water or infra red heaters ) and the stretcher is then pumped up so pushing the shell outwards. The boot is then cooled in cold water and the inner boot put back inside. Generally pushing the shell a few millimetres is sufficient.
